Recently, Dementia Australia became the overarching national peak body to better support people living with dementia, their families, and carers. It formed following the amalgamation the Dementia peak body and the Alzheimer’s Australia Federation.

Dementia Australia’s purpose is to advocate for the needs of people living with all forms of dementia, their families, and their carers, and to provide advocacy, support services, education, and information.

The organisation is now looking to appoint a new non-executive director to the board. They’re looking for applications from individuals who have an understanding and commitment to good governance and transparency. Successful candidates will be expected to have a strong understanding of corporate governance, coupled with current knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements. Strategic expertise and experience at a senior level in business, government, or in the community will be highly regarded.

To contribute to a better geographical representation on their board, Dementia Australia are specifically looking for a new Director who comes from outside Victoria, with applicants from Western Australia particularly encouraged.

Board members will have a genuine interest and commitment to Dementia Australia’s vision and purpose. Additionally, it is expected that they will occasionally attend public functions and make public statements as an advocate for Dementia Australia.

This non-executive director role will require approximately 6 – 8 meetings per annum and these meetings can be conducted in both face-to-face and electronic settings. Sub-committee meetings are conducted as required. This director will be appointed by the Board for an initial term of three years, and which can then be renewed by the board. This is a voluntary, unpaid position. Directors are reimbursed for any out of pocket expenses reasonably incurred in attending board meetings and related matters.
