About the organisation

Dementia Australia is the overarching national peak body working to better support and advocate for people affected by dementia. It formed following the amalgamation the Dementia peak body and the Alzheimer’s Australia Federation. The organisation represents the 459,000 Australians living with dementia and the almost 1.6 million Australians involved in their care.

Dementia Australia’s purpose is to advocate for the needs of people living with all forms of dementia, their families, and their carers, and to provide support services, education, and information. Hear more from those with lived experience here

About the role

The organisation is looking to appoint two new non-executive directors to the Board. Board members have a genuine interest and commitment to Dementia Australia’s vision and purpose.  Additionally, it is expected that they will occasionally attend public functions and make public statements as an advocate for Dementia Australia. Successful candidates will be expected to have a working knowledge of the regulatory and compliance requirements of a Board role.

Dementia Australia are particularly looking for candidates with backgrounds that include experience in:

  • Clinical Governance (service delivery oversight in either a government or private context),
  • Business (with a track record of entrepreneurship), or
  • Digital Commerce

In order to maintain their national perspective, Dementia Australia are particularly looking for new board members from either NSW or Queensland.

Dementia Australia is committed to representing the diversity of their community. Indigenous people, those who identify as LGBTQ, people with a disability, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

This Non-Executive Director role will require approximately 6 – 7 meetings per annum and these meetings can be conducted either face-to-face or online. Sub-committee meetings are conducted 6 times per year. These directors will be appointed by the Board for an initial term of three years which can then be renewed by the Board.

This is a voluntary, unpaid position. Directors are reimbursed for any out of pocket expenses reasonably incurred in attending Board meetings and related matters.

This is an excellent opportunity to work with a motivated and dedicated Board who are committed to good governance to deliver positive outcomes for people from all backgrounds with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of Dementia, along with their families and carers.
