 The organisation

Philanthropy Australia is the national peak body for philanthropy. Established 40 years ago by several Melbourne based foundations, they are now an independent organisation with approximately 700 trusts, foundations, organisations, families, individual donors, professional advisers, intermediaries and not-for-profits as their membership and partners.

The role

The primary purpose of this new role is to lead and drive Philanthropy Australia’s efforts to engage a larger and more diverse membership, inspire a new wave of giving and foster better approaches to giving across the philanthropic sector as outlined in Philanthropy Australia’s 2022-25 Strategic Plan.  As part of the Executive Leadership, the Executive Director Engagement will provide the inspiring, strategic, and inclusive leadership needed to deliver on Philanthropy Australia’s ambitious growth agenda of 2,000 members by 2025 and a doubling in structured philanthropic giving by 2030.

Experience, knowledge & skills

To be successful in this role, you will have/be:

  • A strategic and results-oriented leader, with extensive experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams across marketing, communications and/or business development.
  • Experience building scale and delivering operational transformation is desirable.
  • High emotional intelligence and proven ability to unite disparate teams to focus on a common goal to drive significant and holistic business development outcomes for an organisation.
  • Proven technical expertise across marketing, communications and business development in a philanthropic or grant-making environment.
  • A passion for philanthropy and alignment to PA’s vision and purpose
  • Proven experience in developing and nurturing complex engagements with high-net-worth individuals and working in collaboration toward a mutually beneficially and ongoing relationship.
  • Experience working within a membership structure will be viewed as valuable.
  • Strong budgeting skills, a proven ability to manage resources and work toward financial goals.
