Apply your financial management skills in this iconic organisation making tangible inroads into curing cancer.

  • Hands-on role managing financial operations
  • Strong foundation and a reputation for excellence
  • Strategic management and commercial focus

The Cure Cancer Australia Foundation (CCAF) aims to find a cure for all cancers through the promotion of innovation in research. They believe early-career researchers – who offer new ideas and challenging perspectives – are the key to advancing the fight against all types of cancer.  To this end the Foundation funds the brightest, most innovative early-career researchers so that they can advance their research project into cancer cures and preventions.  Foundation support covers salary and any research assistance or materials for the specified project.  Over the past 52 years, Cure Cancer Australia has raised over $68.8mn and funded 515 research grants to over 300 individual early career researchers. Indeed, many Cure Cancer Australia researchers who received their funding early in their careers are now amongst Australia’s most prominent cancer researchers.

CCAF is at an exciting time in its evolution; with a dedicated board, a new CEO, strong leadership team, expert staff, and a proven track record for excellence and innovation. They are looking for a Head of Finance who will be responsible for ensuring operational excellence across finance, HR, risk management, quality, compliance, IT/business systems and strategic projects to support the organisation’s overarching strategy.

In this role you will lead the organisation’s finance function including overseeing cash flow planning, producing monthly management and board finance reports, leading the annual budget-setting and audit processes, tracking operational metrics (KPIs) and advising the CEO, leadership team colleagues and the Board on commercial considerations. Ultimately, you will ensure CCAF resources are managed in the most beneficial way and help maximise funding.

This is a diverse and hands on role, which includes operational aspects that support CCAF’s program delivery as well as management of third-party providers (payroll, HR and IT), management of tenancy arrangements and risk management systems and processes.   You will have in-depth knowledge of risk management methods, the ability to create forecasting models and be commercially savvy and strategic, while retaining a hands-on approach to performing key finance functions.

Energy and a desire to add value in a busy, growing organisation are essential, as is an understanding of not-for-profit revenue streams and the associated accounting and acquittal requirements.

This is a full-time role or a 4 day per week role, located in Sydney.
