The organisation

Asthma Australia has been the leading charity and consumer peak body for people with asthma and their communities for over 60 years.

The challenges of climate change, unhealthy air, and health inequity make it more important than ever for people with asthma to have a voice. Asthma Australia searches for new and progressive approaches to challenge the status quo. Their work is grounded in evidence and centred on the experiences of people affected by asthma. By listening to those living with asthma, designing solutions with them, and influencing change, Asthma Australia’s mission is to enable people with asthma to live freely, unrestricted by their asthma.

In 2017 Asthma Australia organisations in NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland and South Australia came together as one to strengthen the impact of their work. Since that time – led by a dedicated board and a dynamic CEO – Asthma Australia has established a strong, cohesive national team, developed and successfully implemented ambitious strategies and been an active voice for those in our community affected by asthma.

The organisation is ready and poised to take off into its next phase of growth and seeks its next CEO who can lead them through this exciting period of expansion and scaling.

The role

Asthma Australia seeks a visionary and entrepreneurial leader to propel their immediate aim to halve the number of avoidable hospital presentations due to asthma by 2030. Building on the strong foundation laid by their former CEO, the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will drive the organisation towards unprecedented growth and impact, transforming the landscape for Australians living with asthma and their carers.

The CEO’s core responsibilities span from continuing the organisation’s strategic trajectory while identifying and executing new growth opportunities. The role will spearhead initiatives to diversify revenue streams and develop sustainable business models, while upholding the highest standards of governance and financial protocols to ensure organisational stability and integrity. This new leader will inspire and motivate a highly capable team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Critical for the next chapter of success will be the CEO’s ability to scale up influence and impact through engagement with external stakeholders by building robust relationships with key stakeholders, including commercial and government health sectors, philanthropic organisations, funders, and academic institutions. In addition, in-depth knowledge of the health landscape and the CEO’s ability to strengthen and grow network and development opportunities is key.

The successful candidate will be a seasoned business leader with previous CEO experience. They will be entrepreneurial and innovative in their approach with a positive, solutions and impact-oriented attitude. They will be financially and commercially astute, have the ability to lead and manage geographically diverse teams, excel at stakeholder relationships at the highest level and possess a professional demeanour with excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
