The organisation
Invictus Australia is the Australian chapter of the Invictus Games Foundation, an international adaptive multi-sport event for wounded, injured, or sick armed services personnel and veterans. The event was founded by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, in 2014.
Invictus Australia focuses on supporting Australian veterans and active-duty service members and their families in their journey to recovery and rehabilitation through sports. While the Invictus Games provides a platform for athletes to showcase their determination, resilience, and courage while competing in a range of sports (including athletics, swimming, wheelchair basketball, and cycling among others), the main part of Invictus Australia’s work centres around organising community programs and events, creating a supportive network for veterans to connect and inspire each other. Invictus Australia prioritises mental health and offers resources, counselling services, and collaboration with experts.
The role
The Invictus Board is collegiate and committed, with genuine passion to the organisation’s mission and values. They’re looking to add a diverse perspective to support the organisation and its ambitions. Currently constituting four distinguished leaders, the Board is seeking to appoint two to three new directors who bring a mix of skills in key areas including Marketing/Sponsorship and Fundraising; Strategy and Governance; or Finance/Audit. In addition, Invictus Australia is looking for gender and geographical diversity and invite expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals particularly from areas outside of NSW and ACT.
Suitable candidates will be experienced board directors, with an engaged, collaborative and consultative approach, demonstrated understanding of good governance practices, and have a genuine commitment to supporting the Invictus movement in Australia and globally.
