The organisation

Established in 2011, Roses in the Ocean seeks to lead the significant cultural shift needed to save lives through harnessing the perspectives of the community they represent, along with their own lived experience of suicide. It seeks to innovate and transform suicide prevention, and drive and deliver system reform, working towards this via a range of services and advocacy activities. Roses in the Ocean supports organisations and government to effectively and meaningfully integrate lived experience expertise into suicide prevention. It is committed to empowering those with a lived experience of suicide to find their voice, and to build this community’s capacity to bring insights and wisdom to suicide prevention.

Roses in the Ocean has been on a path of steady growth, particularly since 2018. Funded primarily by government and through a suite of fee-for-service offerings, the organisation operates nationally, with its work recognised internationally.

With two of the current board of directors completing their terms and stepping down from the board, Roses in the Ocean is now looking for two new Non-Executive Directors to join the organisation.

 

The role

Roses in the Ocean is seeking two experienced Non-Executive Directors to join its committed Board and contribute to the organisation’s outstanding work. It has undertaken a comprehensive skills analysis before undertaking this recruitment process.

Roses in the Ocean is an organisation that lives its values, and anyone hoping to join the organisation must be strongly aligned with those.

Critical to these Board roles are lived experience of suicide – defined as ‘having experienced suicidal thoughts; survived a suicide attempt; supported a loved one through suicidal crisis; or been bereaved by suicide’.

Beyond lived experience, the organisation looking for individuals with executive level experience who bring:

  • Expertise in Law and regulatory environments, OR
  • Demonstrated experience in people and culture, and workforce strategy
  • Experience in transformative strategy development and implementation

While risk is an important consideration in any board context, the board of Roses in the Ocean have embraced prudent innovation as part of their growth and invite individuals who share a similar mindset to apply.
