The organisation
The YMCA of New South Wales (The Y NSW) is a vibrant organisation within the world’s oldest and largest youth movement, operating across 120 countries. With a history of 175 years and a global reach of over 58 million members, The Y NSW is committed to strengthening communities. Recognised for its leadership in safeguarding, the organisation prioritises the safety and empowerment of children and young people.
The Y NSW believes in the power of inspired young people and its Vision is a community where every person thrives in body, mind, and spirit.
As a part of a broader movement active across every state and territory in Australia, The Y NSW serves over 40 communities, offering diverse programs such as gymnastics, aquatics, camping, and youth initiatives. With a focus on inclusion and empowerment, their evidence-based Youth and Community programs, including Street gym and Youth Parliament, support mental and physical well-being, foster a sense of belonging and amplify the voices of young people. Employing close to 1,500 people, The Y NSW is a beacon of inspiration and community impact.
The Y NSW is at an exciting time in its evolution. The organisation has a dedicated Board and a new CEO who joined the organisation in June with a mandate for transformation.
The opportunity
The Y NSW Board are currently looking to complement their Board with three new Non-Executive Directors.
In particular, they are looking for experienced board directors who bring:
Previous experience as a board director and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in governance is essential; as are excellent communication and relationship skills and a strategic approach. Board directors who are independent thinkers, who are genuinely committed to The Y NSW’s values and work, and who have the time capacity to contribute to the role are invited to express interest.
The Y NSW fosters and encourages diversity. First Nations and individuals from the LGBTQI or Disability communities with relevant skills and experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
This is a voluntary, unpaid role however Directors are reimbursed for any reasonable out of pocket expenses.
