The organisation

Established in 1883, St John Ambulance New South Wales (NSW) (St John NSW) is a prominent division of the St John Ambulance Australia movement, dedicated to enhancing community health and safety.  They have grown to become a profit-for-purpose organisation focused on building community resilience and saving lives.

The organisation focuses on providing comprehensive first aid training courses for individuals, businesses, and community groups. Their trained volunteers and professional staff offer first aid services at various events, ensuring prompt medical assistance and care.

St John NSW also actively engages in community outreach programs, raising awareness about health and safety issues and promoting injury prevention strategies. Through its commitment to empowering individuals with essential lifesaving skills and its provision of reliable first aid services, St John NSW continues to make a significant impact on public health and well-being in throughout the State.

The role

With a newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, an excellent and well-respected reputation, a committed Board and engaged team, St John NSW is at an exciting point in its evolution.   To deliver on their vision the organisation seeks two independent Non-Executive Directors to be appointed to the Board in 2024.

Previous board experience and a commitment to good governance are essential.  Further to this, and to complement skills that already exist on the Board, St John NSW is particularly looking for directors who will bring specific skills in business and commercial finance, and in clinical expertise and governance. Experience in corporate governance, diverse perspectives and a genuine alignment to the vision, mission and values of the organisation, will also be essential components of these leadership positions.

Active membership and graduates of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) or Governance Institute will be highly regarded.

Board members will have a genuine interest and commitment to St John NSW’s vision and purpose.  Additionally, it is expected that they will attend public functions as an advocate for St John NSW.
