The organisation

The Space Industry Association of Australia (SIAA) is a national not-for-profit peak body for the space industry in Australia. SIAA and its member companies work closely with Australian governments, international partners, academia, and industry to advance Australia’s space industry and economy.

SIAA’s broad membership includes large international corporations, Australian companies, universities, consultants and students. It is highly respected in the Australian space sector for its industry centric well-researched policy positions, its advocacy and its networking events.

With its focus on the promotion and growth of the Australian space industry, SIAA takes a leading role in advocating to government on behalf of the sector. It provides a forum to promote networking and collaboration among its members, and actively promotes and facilitates commercial, industrial and research opportunities for members nationally and internationally.

It’s an exciting time for the organisation as the sector in Australia continues to grow and achieve major milestones. An active participant in the global space industry community, SIAA has won the rights to host the world’s largest space event, International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in 2025. This will be an amazing opportunity for SIAA to showcase Australia’s space industry to the world.

The role

While SIAA has been operating for over 20 years, its first CEO was appointed in 2020 to fully professionalise an organisation that was coming to represent a burgeoning industry. With a staff of seven; processes and procedures fully established; and with the IAC 2025 event on the horizon, SIAA is looking for a CEO who can consolidate their operating model and take the organisation through its next phase of growth.

Specifically, SIAA are looking for a seasoned executive-level people leader, with experience in P&L reporting, and in reporting to a Chair and board. Stakeholder engagement and management is a crucial part of the role; the successful candidate will be a skilled communicator adept at engaging with members, government, corporates, academia, the media, and other players within the sector. Listening will be an important part of this role.

Previous experience leading a Member-based organisation would be looked on favourably, as would demonstrated commerciality within a for-purpose context. Experience within the Space industry would be an advantage but is not essential.

The new CEO will be aligned to the purpose and values of SIAA.
