Use your executive level finance and operations skills within an organisation committed to supporting NSW Veterans and their families.

  • Join an environment committed to transparency and good governance.
  • Work with a new CEO and a collegiate executive team.
  • Help to strengthen an iconic NSW organisation for the future.

The organisation

RSL NSW is an institution and not-for-profit organisation with a solid history. Its’ purpose is to support veterans and their families by connecting them to services to improve their wellbeing, and assist former Australian and allied veterans and families by connecting to them to their local community, through camaraderie, mateship, recreation, and commemorating service.

The organisation has over 27,000 members in 340 sub-Branches throughout New South Wales and is incorporated under a NSW Act of Parliament.

The RSL NSW team is fully focused – the Board, the members, and staff – on their mission of helping veterans and their families in need and making sure they can help many more.

Based in the heart of the Sydney CBD, the RSL NSW head office, the organisation is well into its’ 2021-26 Strategic Plan, and key milestones are already being achieved. Transparency is a key element of the organisation’s approach; a detailed implementation dashboard, a task update – and the Strategy itself – can be found on the RSL NSW website.

RSL NSW recently appointed a new CEO. There have also been recent board elections that have seen the election of several new members. With these changes, this role will be an integral support to the CEO as the organisation moves forward through change and delivers on its Strategic Plan.

The role

The Chief Financial Officer / General Manager Corporate Services (CFO) reports to the RSL NSW CEO and provides oversight and management of the finance, facilities, information systems, people and culture, risk, and compliance functions.

As a key member of the Executive team, this role leads the financial and operational strategy for the organisation, which includes cash flow management, long-term financial planning, timely and accurate reporting of financial results, development of the financial sustainability strategy, KPIs and ongoing improvement and monitoring of RSL NSW’s systems, processes, and policies.

RSL NSW are looking for an executive who brings at least five years’ experience in a similar CFO/COO role and who has a track record in working with multidisciplinary teams. Experience working within a complex governance environment is vital, and CA, CPA or similar qualification (10+ years post qualification experience) is essential.

Experience working within a membership and/or service delivery organisation would be looked upon favourably. Similarly, experience in the for-purpose (NFP) environment with a sound understanding of funding and revenue streams, as well as working with volunteers, would be an advantage.
