The organisation

The Black Dog Institute is Australia’s only Medical Research Institute to investigate mental health across the full lifespan, with an aim of creating a mentally healthier world for everyone.  For over 20 years, the Institute has been at the forefront of mental health research and has maintained a reputation as the face of mental health research and treatment in Australia.

Using a unique ‘translational’ research approach, the Institute turns its world-class research into treatments, prevention strategies, clinical services, educational programs, and e-health products.  This allows them to continue their work in leading Australia’s population health response, and champion the ongoing conversation of mental health in our society.

The Institute collaborates extensively with individuals with lived experience, government entities, communities, corporate bodies, and others in the mental health sector to create evidence-informed solutions.  The Institute’s strategic focus for 2022-2026 to treat, manage and prevent mental health conditions and suicide in workplaces, schools, healthcare settings, and the wider community, with the ultimate vision of achieving a brighter and healthier world for all.

The role

The Black Dog Institute is seeking to appoint a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to provide operational excellence and strategic leadership for the team of staff.

The COO will directly manage and lead a team of existing executives covering Services and Implementation, Governance and Risk, Fundraising and Partnerships, People and Culture, Marketing and Communications, Project Management, First Nations and the Internal Commercialisation Team.
