The Organisation
Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa (KJ) exists to work with Martu building pathways to sustainability on a wide range of cultural, environmental, and social initiatives that preserve Martu’s rich cultural identity and contributes to conservation projects of global significance. KJ is a Martu organisation that operates in several Western Australian desert communities. aiming to preserve Martu culture, to build a viable, sustainable economy in Martu communities and to build realistic pathways for young Martu to a healthy and prosperous future.
KJ does not operate with a single CEO, but with three General Managers who perform that leadership function jointly as the Corporate Leadership Team (CLT).
Each General Manager in effect has two roles: specialised, individual responsibility for a key focus of the company, and, through the CLT, contribution to the collective responsibility for the CEO role.
The Role
The General Manager Organisational Development (GMOD) is a new role on the CLT and has a brief across the whole organisation. The role is to lead and help managers and staff at all levels to design and implement ways to ensure that their work is informed by, and remains true to KJ’s organisational culture and its strategic values.
This role is less focused on what KJ does, particularly on a day-to-day basis, and more focused on how the organisation does its work. It is centrally concerned with organisational culture and capability.
The role of the GMOD is not to be an enforcer of values or processes, but a leader, enabler and facilitator, to assist managers and staff at every level of the organisation to continually learn, to design and innovative methods, to develop strategies, to deal with fluid issues that arise and to conduct processes that help the whole company to work in a harmonious, strategic and Martu-focused way. This position demands strategic skills, a capacity for innovation and creativity, an understanding of community development and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
The cross-cultural context of KJ’s work means that all managers and staff require continuous learning about Martu culture and methods for effective cross-cultural engagement to ensure that their work are aligned with and contribute to KJ’s overall mission to build sustainable Martu communities.
This role will be expected to nurture an Action-Reflection ethos and a culture of sharing, respect, and accountability. This role will lead strategies for recruitment, staff support and professional development to ensure they are of the highest quality maintaining KJ as an employer of choice.
