Shape the future of one of Australia’s leading disability organisations
  • Strategic oversight of a large, complex, national org delivering human services
  • Contribute to national disability reform and social impact
  • Support strategy, innovation, and long-term sustainability

The organisation

Aruma is one of Australia’s largest for-purpose organisations, supporting more than 4,000 people with disability to live a great life—defined by choice, inclusion and dignity. With almost 6,000 staff across 550+ locations, Aruma delivers a broad range of services and plays an influential role in shaping national disability policy and reform.  Following a period of strengthened financial discipline and operational performance, Aruma is entering its next phase—refocusing on purpose, social impact, customer outcomes and service innovation in a rapidly evolving NDIS and human services environment.

The role

Aruma is seeking to appoint up to two Non-Executive Directors as part of planned Board renewal ahead of the November 2026 AGM. These appointments come at a pivotal moment, offering the opportunity to shape the organisation’s next phase of governance, strategy and impact.

The Board is transitioning from a period of financial stabilisation toward purpose-led, impact-driven governance. New Directors will contribute to:

  • Strategic oversight of a large, complex, national organisation
  • Balancing financial sustainability with customer-centred outcomes
  • Supporting innovation and reform in a changing policy environment
  • Strengthening governance capability while maintaining a clear Board-level focus

This is a significant opportunity to contribute to an organisation with genuine national influence and a strong human rights foundation.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking experienced leaders who bring:

  • Senior executive experience (CEO, CFO or equivalent) in large, complex organisations
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, with accountability for sustainability and performance
  • Experience in workforce-intensive service environments (e.g. human services, health, government or adjacent sectors)
  • Strategic capability, with the ability to support innovation, reform and measured risk-taking
  • A governance mindset, with the ability to operate at Board level rather than in operations

Highly regarded:

  • Experience in property, housing, workforce or industrial relations environments
  • Government, policy or regulatory exposure
  • Understanding of the disability, health or human services sectors

Aruma strongly values diversity of experience and perspective. Applications are encouraged from people with lived experience of disability, First Nations backgrounds, and candidates who reflect the communities Aruma serves.
To support Board composition, candidates based in Queensland or Victoria are particularly encouraged to apply.
