The role
KAA is seeking an experienced Non-Executive Director to join its Board and contribute independent judgement, constructive challenge and sound decision-making. Working closely with the Chair, fellow Directors and the Chief Executive Officer, the appointee will help oversee strategy, organisational performance, financial sustainability, risk and regulatory compliance.
The Director will champion our first nations people, child safety and safeguarding at Board level, ensuring they remain embedded in our Organisation’s values, culture, strategy and decision-making. They will contribute to oversight of safeguarding frameworks, quality assurance, organisational risk appetite and compliance, while helping the Board maintain the right balance between ambition and safe, sustainable operations.
The role will also contribute to KAA’s long-term strategy, service development, reform readiness and capability building. Strong commercial acumen will support oversight of funding models, investment decisions and performance. An understanding of digital strategy and data-enabled governance – including how systems, data and technology support service quality, safeguarding, efficiency and performance oversight – will be valuable.
The successful candidate will build trusted and professional relationships with the Chair and CEO, while maintaining appropriate independence and clear accountability between governance and management. They will contribute to a constructive, high-performing Board culture characterised by integrity, accountability, respectful challenge and alignment with KAA’s values. As agreed by the Board, they may also represent KAA externally and engage with relevant stakeholders, peak bodies and partners.
This appointment is intended to support Board succession. The successful candidate should have a clear aspiration and potential to progress into increased Board leadership, including a future Deputy Chair and, subject to performance, Board needs and succession planning, Chair role.
About you
You will be an experienced director or senior leader with contemporary governance capability and a deep commitment to KAA’s vision, values and charitable purpose. You will bring strong strategic and commercial judgement, a risk-aware mindset and experience in complex, multi-stakeholder and/or government-funded environments. You will understand the governance of child safety, safeguarding, quality assurance, risk and compliance, and demonstrate integrity, collaboration and confidence in handling complex and sensitive matters.
