The organisation
CareerSeekers is a non-profit social enterprise creating pathways to meaningful, professional employment for people who have come to Australia as refugees and people seeking asylum. Through paid internships with leading Australian employers, CareerSeekers helps talented professionals and university students start or restart their careers in Australia.
Since commencing delivery in 2016, CareerSeekers has delivered more than 2,200 internships, generating over $80 million in wages for participants, with more than 90% converting to ongoing professional employment. It partners with more than 70 leading employers nationally and generates the majority of its income through employer partnership fees, supplemented by philanthropic support.
The opportunity
CareerSeekers is seeking to appoint a Non-Executive Director as part of planned Board renewal. At the start of a new strategy period, this is an opportunity to join an experienced and committed Board and contribute to CareerSeekers’ next phase of growth and national impact.
The Board is seeking a Director with a strong corporate or commercial leadership background, strategic and financial acumen, and a genuine, active network. Partner and stakeholder engagement will be important, including a willingness to open doors to employment opportunities and philanthropic support. Capability in philanthropy and/or marketing and communications is also sought.
Candidates based in Victoria or Queensland are a strong priority. Lived experience as a refugee or person seeking asylum, and experience in employment services, migration, human rights or related public policy, would also be highly regarded. Above all, candidates will bring a genuine, demonstrated commitment to CareerSeekers’ mission and to creating employment opportunities for people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.
