The organisation
The Australian Sustainable Finance Institute (ASFI) is Australia’s peak body for sustainable finance. Its mission is to mobilise capital for climate, nature and social outcomes, helping to realign Australia’s financial system so that more capital flows towards a sustainable, resilient and inclusive future. Working across financial institutions, government, regulators, civil society, academia and industry, ASFI brings together the people and perspectives needed to achieve system-wide change. Its work shapes policy and regulation, supports practical changes within financial institutions, and builds the leadership and capability required to move sustainable finance from ambition and frameworks into implementation and measurable impact. Established in 2021, ASFI has built significant credibility, strong relationships and a distinctive position as an independent and influential voice across the financial system. It is a small, dynamic organisation with an expert, collaborative and adaptable team committed to work that is practical, credible and consequential.
The role
Reporting to the ASFI Board, the Chief Executive Officer will lead ASFI into its next phase of impact and influence. This is a rare opportunity to apply your experience, relationships and leadership to one of Australia’s most important economic and social transitions. You will shape ASFI’s strategic direction, convert its credibility into greater market impact, and bring finance, government, regulators and industry together around shared action.
The CEO will provide strategic, financial and organisational leadership; oversee ASFI’s people, programs and partnerships; and represent ASFI as an independent and compelling voice for sustainable finance. ASFI is a small, expert organisation, so the CEO must be equally comfortable operating at a system-wide level and rolling up their sleeves to contribute directly. This is a hands-on role for someone practical, adaptable and willing to work across organisational boundaries.
You will bring significant knowledge of responsible investment and sustainable finance, together with commercial judgement, political astuteness and success building relationships and securing funding. You will be an influential communicator and convenor, able to translate complexity into a clear, ambitious agenda and inspire others to act. Experience shaping strategy, leading change and working across strategic and operational priorities in a small, purpose-driven organisation will be important. Above all, you will want to use your experience to help build a more sustainable, resilient and inclusive Australia.
The role is full-time and permanent. Sydney or Canberra is preferred, with flexibility considered and travel required.
