Our brief
Until September 2022, the Judith Neilson Foundation had a small start-up team led by CEO Simon Freedman. People for Purpose were appointed to support Simon in building his initial executive team that included a Chief Operating Officer, Head of Communications, Head of Programs for Australia and Head of Programs for Africa. These key positions would have a major role in transformative projects that would create equal opportunities for vulnerable people across Australia and Africa. We partnered with the foundation to locate the people across our broad network who could make it happen.
About

The Judith Neilson Foundation is an international organisation that supports vulnerable communities in Australia and Africa.

Established by Australian philanthropist and businesswoman Judith Neilson, the foundation aims to create a fairer society where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive.

By investing in people, places and culture, the foundation strengthens communities in Africa and Australia. Partnerships with local organisations help deliver locally led solutions to social, economic and resource inequities.

Judith Neilson Foundation, together with the Australian Government, has recently partnered with World Vision to support health and nutrition initiatives in Uganda.

Outcome

After an extensive search and robust recruitment process, we found the ideal candidates in Peter Hosier as Chief Operating Officer, Rosie Makepeace as Head of Communications, Candice Van Doosselaere as Head of Programs for Australia, and Upenyu ‘Uppi’ Mawande as Head of Programs for Africa.

These passionate and experienced new leaders have been crucial in identifying, researching, and contracting to fund a portfolio of 10 projects within each focus area, with a total commitment of $5 million over 12 months.
