The organisation

The Centre for Inclusive Employment is a national initiative established through a Commonwealth Government grant.  The overarching responsibility for the Centre for Inclusive Employment is held by Swinburne University of Technology.  An Advisory Committee made up of consortium members and independent members with lived experience of disability will guide the Centre’s work program. The Centre builds and shares evidence of “what works”, delivers training and resources for employment service providers and employers, and maintains a central online hub of research, tools, and best practice. Working closely with people with lived experience, providers, researchers, and government, the Centre for Inclusive Employment drives innovation and collaboration across the employment ecosystem to create lasting systemic change and ensure more people with disability can access meaningful, sustainable work.

The role

The Chair of the Centre for Inclusive Employment Advisory Committee provides independent leadership to guide the Centre’s work in achieving its goal of increasing employment for people with disability. The Chair is responsible for facilitating inclusive and collaborative committee meetings, setting the tone for respectful and productive discussions, and ensuring the voices of people with lived experience remain central in advice to the Centre. Working closely with the Centre Director, the Chair acts as a key link between the Advisory Committee and the Office of the Centre for Inclusive Employment, engages with government and sector stakeholders, and helps shape the Centre’s vision, strategy, and annual work plan.  The Chair’s role is to ensure the Advisory Committee operates effectively in meeting its responsibilities and provides opportunity for all members to contribute.  The Chair also plays a critical role in providing advice relating to resource allocation and promoting the Centre’s work across the sector.

The Chair must be a person with disability and bring strong governance and executive leadership experience, ideally with deep knowledge of the disability employment sector and evidence-based approaches to improve employment outcomes. They should have proven expertise in facilitating diverse groups, building collaboration across sectors, and leading change agendas. Key selection criteria include strategic planning, risk management, and stakeholder engagement skills, as well as high levels of emotional intelligence and self-awareness. Experience working with Commonwealth grant processes, financial oversight, and familiarity with a university or research context are advantageous.
