Lead governance and strategic direction as Chair of MYST, supporting young people across the Blue Mountains community.
- Contribute to a Board focused on governance, continuity and impact
- Partner with a new CEO to provide guidance, support and oversight
- Support relationships with partners, funders and community
The organisation
Mountains Youth Services Team (MYST) is a non-denominational, community-based organisation providing youth centres, counselling, outdoor education, workshops, and family support across the Blue Mountains. Through strength-based practice and harm minimisation frameworks, MYST works with young people and their families to prevent disengagement and mental health crises, offering early intervention and tailored support to those most in need.
With around 16 staff and a trusted local presence, MYST has built strong relationships with government, council, and community partners. Its work is underpinned by a clear values base, deep community connection, and a commitment to equipping young people with the tools and support they need to thrive.
The role
The Chair will lead the Board in setting strategic direction and ensuring strong governance, working closely with the new CEO as a key partner and sounding board. The role involves facilitating effective Board meetings, guiding organisational growth and sustainability, and supporting the development and performance of Directors. Externally, the Chair will represent MYST to stakeholders, including government, donors and partners, while helping to strengthen key relationships and position the organisation for its next phase of growth and impact.
MYST is seeking a values-aligned leader with solid governance experience and some exposure to the for-purpose sector, whether through board or executive roles. Prior Chair experience would be welcomed, though seasoned Board directors ready to step into their first Chair role may also be considered. The right person will bring a calm, grounded approach, confidence in navigating board dynamics, and the ability to build a constructive working relationship with the CEO. An understanding of, or genuine interest in, the needs of young people and community-based organisations will be important.
This is a paid Board role, see Board Pack for more information (https://shorturl.at/gpErG).
