Help shape the future sustainability of dementia research in Australia
  • Chair a nationally significant health research organisation
  • Build partnerships, influence, funding and long-term impact
  • Lead through a pivotal phase of organisational evolution

The organisation

The Australian Dementia Network Limited (ADNL) is the independent not-for-profit entity supporting the Australian Dementia Network (ADNeT) – a nationally significant collaboration connecting dementia researchers, clinicians, institutions and industry partners across Australia.

ADNeT was established in 2018 to strengthen Australia’s capacity for dementia research, clinical trials and translational collaboration. Through its national infrastructure – including a clinical quality registry, trials-ready cohorts and collaborative research networks – ADNeT supports research, improves care pathways and contributes to the development of future dementia treatments and interventions.

ADNL provides the governance and strategic stewardship that enables this work to continue and evolve. The organisation is now entering an important next phase, focused on long-term sustainability, strategic partnerships and diversified funding to support the future of dementia research in Australia.

The role

ADNL is seeking an experienced and collaborative Chair to help guide the organisation through a period of transition, renewal and strategic evolution. Working closely with the board, researchers and key stakeholders, the incoming Chair will help strengthen governance, support long-term sustainability and build external relationships that position ADNL for its next phase of impact.

The role requires someone comfortable operating within a complex and highly networked environment spanning universities, research institutions, government, philanthropy and industry. The successful candidate will bring the judgement, credibility and relationship capability to navigate these intersections while helping unify and strengthen the organisation’s strategic direction.

The board is seeking a Chair who can contribute both governance leadership and external influence – someone capable of opening doors, building partnerships and supporting future funding opportunities, while fostering a constructive and collaborative board culture.

Candidates will bring previous Chair experience, alongside demonstrated capability building relationships across government, philanthropy, industry, research or other complex stakeholder environments. Previous experience supporting organisational sustainability, funding diversification and/or strategic growth will be highly regarded.

While experience in health, medical research, ageing or dementia-related sectors would be valuable, the organisation is equally interested in candidates bringing broader leadership, influence and partnership capability aligned to ADNL’s future direction.

The role is expected to require approximately 2–4 days per month, with flexibility around periods of increased activity.
