The organisation
Social Ventures Australia (SVA) is a national not-for-profit organisation that works with partners to alleviate disadvantage and build an Australia where all people and communities thrive. SVA achieves this by influencing systems to deliver better social outcomes through learning what works on the ground, helping organisations become more effective, sharing insights, and advocating for change. Their work spans areas such as First Nations, Education, Employment, Early Years, and Policy and Advocacy. SVA values people at the centre, strength in diversity, a mindset open to learning, and a recognition that real change takes time.
The role
This is a rare opportunity to lead a team at the forefront of systemic social change. The Executive Director, Social Impact Initiatives will oversee a portfolio of impactful, philanthropically funded initiatives that tackle entrenched disadvantage through innovation, partnerships, and advocacy. Reporting to the CEO and based in either Sydney or Melbourne, the Executive Director will lead a team of expert practice leads, contribute to SVA’s strategic direction, nurture high-value cross-sector relationships, and ensure both impact and financial sustainability.
SVA seeks a strategic and inspirational leader with a deep understanding of social issues in Australia, a proven track record in leading complex social impact initiatives, the ability to influence across government, philanthropy, and community sectors. Political and commercial acumen, entrepreneurial thinking, and experience managing diverse high-performing teams are key. Lived experience or direct work with people facing disadvantage is highly regarded.
