The organisation
The Nelson Meers Foundation (NMF) is a private, family-led philanthropic foundation committed to enriching Australia’s cultural and civic life, and advancing a more inclusive, just, and sustainable society. Since 2001, the Foundation has funded over 250 projects that champion bold ideas and transformative impact, with a long-standing focus on arts, culture, and social justice. NMF recently expanded its remit to include targeted funding in human rights (specifically gender and First Nations justice), aging, and the environment.

The role
The Executive Officer (EO) is the operational and strategic lead for the Foundation. Working closely with the Chair and Advisory Council, the EO oversees grant making, stakeholder engagement, governance, and operational functions. This role offers the opportunity to shape the Foundation’s next chapter and drive meaningful partnerships that contribute to lasting social and cultural change. This is a small, family foundation that would suit a hands on, experienced all-rounder who will:
- Lead the Foundation’s strategic, grant making, and sector engagement activities.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with grantees, partners, and sector peers.
- Oversee the full grant cycle, including due diligence, proposal assessment, and impact evaluation.
- Represent the Foundation at events and forums, strengthening its profile and voice.
- Support governance and reporting, including preparation for Advisory Council meetings.
- Manage communications and promote the Foundation’s mission and values.
- Oversee daily operations and support continuous improvement of systems and processes.
