Lead operations for a national legal service advancing access to justice for children and young people.
- Drive finance, governance and IT oversight
- Partner closely with the CEO and Board
- Twelve-month parental leave contract
The organisation
Youth Law Australia (YLA) is a national community legal centre providing free, confidential legal assistance to children and young people under 25. Through direct legal services, digital access points and systemic advocacy, YLA works to ensure young people can understand their rights and take action when they experience harm, discrimination or injustice.
YLA operates nationally with a geographically dispersed team and a strong reputation for innovation in service delivery. The organisation is values-driven, technology-enabled and focused on increasing access to justice at scale.
The role
This Interim Chief Operating Officer role has been created to cover a period of parental leave and to ensure continuity, stability and confident operational leadership during that time.
Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Board, the Interim COO will be a member of the Executive Management Team and will lead YLA’s Operations function across finance, governance, risk, IT and organisational systems. The role combines strategic oversight with hands-on delivery in a lean organisation operating nationally.
YLA is seeking an executive with strong financial literacy, experience supporting governance processes and confidence overseeing technology and systems in a growing organisation. The role requires a leader who is comfortable working in a mission-driven environment with evolving structures and shifting priorities.
This is a senior leadership role where sound judgement, discretion and the ability to work collaboratively with the Executive Director and wider Executive team will be important. The successful candidate will provide steady operational leadership while identifying practical, sustainable improvements that strengthen the organisation’s foundations and support its next stage of development.
