An opportunity to help shape the next chapter of a national organisation dedicated to healing and justice for Stolen Generations survivors and to:
- Contribute to survivor-led healing, justice and systemic change
- Bring strategic judgment, community connection and influence
- Join an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led national Board
The organisation
The Healing Foundation is a national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation supporting Stolen Generations survivors, their descendants and communities. It provides a platform for survivors to speak for themselves, lead their own healing and influence the decisions that affect their lives.
The Foundation works with communities, governments and sector partners to advance justice and systemic reform, strengthen trauma-informed and culturally safe services, build the evidence base for healing, and support community-led initiatives. Nearly 30 years after the Bringing them home report, much remains unfinished. The Foundation is calling for meaningful action so that survivors can live with dignity and future generations can heal.
The role
The Healing Foundation is seeking a Non-Executive Director to join its national Board during an important period of renewal and leadership transition. This is a remunerated role.
Working alongside fellow directors, the successful candidate will help shape strategy, oversee organisational sustainability and risk, support and hold the Chief Executive Officer to account, and strengthen the Foundation’s advocacy and influence. They will bring independent judgement to complex and sensitive issues while contributing to culturally safe, survivor-led decision-making.
This opportunity will suit someone with a deep connection to the Foundation’s purpose, strong strategic judgement and credibility within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and/or government. Emotional maturity, integrity and a collegiate approach will be important, as will the capacity to contribute actively to the Board and its committees. Previous board experience is valued but is not essential.
