The organisation

The Sydney Adventist Hospital, popularly known as “The San”, is NSW’s largest private hospital. Established in 1903 in Wahroonga, it is now a world class facility providing exceptional patient care, utilising advanced medical technology, and exhibiting a deep commitment to clinical research and education. It is a not-for-profit organisation.

San Foundation, originally established in 1987 as the “Sydney Adventist Hospital Foundation”, serves as the philanthropic arm of The San. For over 35 years, it has helped ensure the hospital remains at the forefront of medical excellence by securing donations that fund essential research, cutting-edge technology, education, and facility enhancements. Guided by values of integrity, passion, accountability, and transparency, San Foundation’s mission is to drive innovation and deliver outstanding patient care through the generosity of supporters.

The role

As a Non-Executive Director, you will work collaboratively with fellow Board members to steward the culture, strategy and governance of San Foundation. The Board is responsible for appointing and supporting the CEO, setting strategic direction and KPIs, monitoring performance and donor growth, and ensuring robust compliance with all internal and external governance requirements. Directors uphold the highest fiduciary standards — acting in the best interests of the Foundation, exercising care and diligence, retaining independent judgement, managing conflicts of interest, and safeguarding confidentiality — while modelling behaviours that reflect the organisation’s values.

We are seeking a seasoned Board director and senior finance leader, ideally with NFP governance experience and strong networks across the Australian business community. You will bring strategic acumen, sound judgement and an entrepreneurial mindset, alongside experience leading or advising substantial finance functions, and ideally exposure to large complex organisations, asset management or capital works. An engaging and highly ethical leader, you will demonstrate a deep personal connection to the cause, understanding of Adventist beliefs and a commitment to driving impactful fundraising outcomes in support of The San and its mission.
