The organisation
The Y NSW (YMCA NSW) is a leading not-for-profit organisation and one of Australia’s most recognised youth-serving organisations, operating for more than 180 years and reaching more than 40 communities across New South Wales. Guided by its purpose of empowering children, young people and communities to thrive, the Y NSW delivers a broad range of programs and services including aquatics, gymnastics, camping, outside school hours care, youth services and community programs.
With more than 1,900 employees, a strong commitment to safeguarding and child safety, and a reputation for governance excellence, the Y NSW combines significant operational scale with deep community impact. As it continues to grow its services and partnerships, the Y NSW seeks to strengthen its Board with the appointment of Non-Executive Directors who bring complementary expertise and a genuine commitment to creating positive outcomes for young people across NSW.
The opportunity
This is an opportunity to join an experienced and highly credentialed Board overseeing one of Australia’s largest and most respected community organisations.
The Board is seeking experienced governors who will contribute to thoughtful decision-making, provide strategic oversight, constructively challenge management and help guide the organisation through its next phase of growth and impact.
We’re particularly interested in leaders who bring experience in one or more of the following:
- Contemporary and credible board governance
- Strategy and organisational transformation
- Commercial leadership and financial sustainability
- Risk, audit and organisational resilience
Beyond these core capabilities, we welcome candidates who can broaden the Board’s collective perspective through experience in areas such as stakeholder engagement, community partnerships, youth development, sport and recreation, or government and public policy.
In addition to the above, experience within the human services sector, particularly in the delivery, governance or oversight of services for children and young people, will be highly regarded. This may include expertise across community services, early childhood, youth development, education, child safety or related sectors.
We are also committed to building a Board that reflects diverse perspectives and encourage interest from candidates across metropolitan, regional and rural New South Wales.
