Our brief
The Board of Generation Australia approached People for Purpose in 2019 in search of their first employee, A COO that would transition into the CEO. They needed someone who understood the education to employment pathway with expertise in both leadership and digital. We helped identify Malcolm Kinns, who went onto lead the organisation through an incredibly positive start up chapter for the first 5 years. We supported the organisation over many years with multiple placements.
About

Generation Australia trains and empowers people who face significant barriers to employment. The organisation designs, builds and delivers accelerated training and employment programs for unemployed, underemployed or at-risk people, including women, youth, people living with disability and First Nations peoples

GA is part of a global network that spans 18 countries and partners with companies like Macquarie Group Foundation, Microsoft and Accenture.

As well as providing employers with high-quality, motivated and diverse talent, GA is transforming the entire employment system by increasing the capability of other education and training organisations.

Outcome

With the right leadership in place, Generation Australia has supported over 1,000 learners through its care and tech programs, with 80% of graduates securing employment within 180 days and 78% feeling positive about their future. They introduced new bootcamp programs, such as Data Analytics and Cybersecurity, in response to industry demands. A strong focus on diversity led to tailored programs for First Nations and neurodivergent participants, earning them the TechDiversity 2022 Education category award. With over 230 employer partners, their training programs align closely with real-world needs. Despite funding challenges, they launched a new coalition of funders and maintained positive government engagements to sustain their mission.Looking ahead, GA aims to continue innovating programs, influencing employers to support non-traditional talent, and engaging diverse funders to enable more learners to succeed in their careers.
