Our brief
In 2019, we were excited to partner with Goodstart Learning Centre to search for the organisation’s Chair. The ideal candidates needed not only top-tier business acumen but also a genuine commitment to enhancing the quality and accessibility of early learning in Australia. Philip Coffey was appointed (previously deputy CEO of Westpac Group). After a successful search we were mandated to work with the CFO, Jeff Hardie to identify multiple executive leaders.
About

Goodstart Early Learning was established by 4 leading charities in 2010. Now it’s Australia’s largest early learning provider and the largest non-government provider of kindergarten and preschool programs.

Goodstart operates 654 early learning centres across Australia, employs 15,800 staff, and supports 61,400 children and 51,500 families.

This not-for-profit’s impact extends beyond the classroom into investments in groundbreaking research to improve early learning affordability, access and participation.

The organisation’s vision is for every child in Australia to thrive and achieve optimal learning, development, and well-being outcomes.

Outcome

The impact of these 6 leaders has been transformative, directly improving the lives of many children and helping Goodstart achieve some major milestones:

  • More than $260,000 was raised for community initiatives.
  • More than 98% of centres met or exceeded the National Quality Standard.
  • The Early Learning Fund supported fee relief for 1,106 vulnerable children, with a $382 million social dividend.
  • Educators received a 7% wage increase, with 350 educators upskilled to teaching qualifications and 800 new trainees recruited.
  • 85% of staff completed cultural competency training.
  • $2.2 million was invested in advocacy and research.
