Our brief
In 2021, Life Without Barriers was searching for multiple non-executive directors that had:
• skills in finance, governance, human and community services
• lived experience of disability
• stakeholder management expertise.
Between 2021 and 2023, the organisation engaged People for Purpose to support their board, as they had appointed Greg Ridder to take over the Chair role, following a founding Chair who had held the role for over 20 years. People For Purpose worked in partnership with Greg and his directors to determine a skills matrix and a board succession plan that took into account governance experience, executive expertise, lived experience and diversity across a range of factors including cultural and linguistic diversity, gender, age, and experience living with a disability.
About
  • children, young people and families
  • people with disability and mental illness
  • those who are disadvantaged.

With a commitment to social inclusion and community engagement, Life Without Barriers offers various programs and support options to help every person live their life to the fullest.

LWB takes pride in its commitment to employing people with disabilities. Currently, 12.4% of its leadership roles are held by people with disabilities.

Outcome

These fantastic directors have hit the ground running. In only a few short years, they’ve helped Life Without Barriers support 23,740 people, while employing 13,119 staff and carers across Australia.

They have also expanded LWB’s policy and advocacy around disability employment, reconciliation, and home and living choices for people with disability.
