We are proud to have partnered with Many Rivers, a not-for-profit organisation creating pathways to financial independence through microenterprise and community economic development across Australia.
Many Rivers works with people who want to start or grow a small business but lack access to the resources, networks or confidence to begin. Since its inception, the organisation has helped more than 14,000 clients and supported the establishment of over 3,000 businesses, generating more than $500 million in revenue. Its long-term coaching model gives clients the skills and confidence to build sustainable livelihoods, reduce reliance on welfare, and contribute to stronger local communities.
As part of our partnership, People for Purpose supported board succession planning to align governance capability with strategy. We worked closely with the Chair, CEO and Board to identify the skills and perspectives needed to support the organisation’s next phase of growth, particularly in Indigenous economic development and impact investment.
This work led to the appointment of several exceptional Non-Executive Directors, including:
- Darren Godwell, one of Australia’s most respected Indigenous executives, bringing more than 25 years of experience in Indigenous enterprise and international economic development. A proud descendant of the Kokoberren peoples of Cape York, Darren’s work has influenced national and global policy through DFAT, NIAA, APEC and the World Economic Forum.
- Harry Turner, an impact investment leader and co-founder of the Talanton Impact Fund, whose 30-year career spans global banking, microfinance, and social enterprise.
- Sorita McGrane, a proud Torres Strait Islander woman and economic development professional with deep experience across government, education, and local business.
These appointments strengthen Many Rivers’ governance capacity and ensure the Board reflects the communities it serves. They bring deep expertise in entrepreneurship, financial inclusion and Indigenous economic participation — all vital to Many Rivers’ mission of helping people take control of their financial futures and build thriving, inclusive communities.
